Jonathan Taylor will likely remain in Indianapolis through the Nov. 10 trade deadline, according to new reports from CBS Sports. The team is not currently seeking to move the running back, even after a series of high-profile departures this week left his status in question for fans and rivals alike.
The Colts traded defensive tackle DeForest Buckner to the 49ers and offensive tackle Quenton Nelson to the Seahawks earlier this week. Those moves cleared out two team captains and key defensive and offensive pillars. With those positions filled by other players, Taylor is now the most prominent name on the roster that other teams might target.
Aditi Kinkhabwala of CBS Sports said she has been assured by the Colts that they are not soliciting offers for Taylor. The team is not actively looking to trade him, but a deal is not impossible if a specific offer arrives.
Taylor met with owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon this week to discuss his future. Irsay-Gordon did not guarantee that Taylor would stay on the roster next season. Taylor told the owner he loved the organization, but no formal agreement was reached during the meeting.
The asking price for Taylor is expected to be high. He is one of the top running backs in the league. In the previous season, he rushed for more than 1,000 yards for the fourth time in his career and led the NFL with 18 rushing touchdowns. This season, entering Week 8, he has 587 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns, which is the most in the league.
Taylor was selected by the Colts in the second round of the 2020 draft out of Wisconsin. He has spent the first seven years of his professional career in Indianapolis. The 27-year-old remains a central figure in the team's offense despite the recent roster changes.
Reports on Saturday indicated that the Broncos, Packers, Vikings, Giants, and Seahawks have expressed interest in acquiring Taylor. The Colts will need a substantial package of picks to agree to a trade, as the returns for Buckner and Nelson were modest by comparison.
