Meta has hired television veteran Rich Latour to lead its in-house content studio.
Latour will serve as VP of content studio, managing social and content teams within the company's communications and public affairs division. He reports directly to Tucker Bounds, the head of communications and public affairs, and is tasked with developing and executing Meta's overall content strategy.
His previous roles include managing director and global head of content at BlackRock, where he led the investment firm's global content strategy. Before that, he worked as VP of digital content at Goldman Sachs. He spent nearly two decades at NBC News, serving as a producer and senior producer on NBC Nightly News. During that time, he received four Emmy Awards and two Edward R. Murrow Awards.
The new role covers several specific areas. Latour will handle brand storytelling focused on the Meta brand and its impact on communities. He will also manage executive social efforts, which involve amplifying brand-level messages through the voices of the company's top executives. Additionally, he will oversee product content support with a particular emphasis on social platforms, as well as international social content.
Meta currently generates most of its revenue and profit from products like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. However, the company is currently increasing its focus on AI through its Muse agent and on virtual and augmented reality through its glasses and headsets. The content studio is outward-facing and focuses on telling Meta's story, but content is poised to become a larger part of the company's overall portfolio.
