A silver SUV became the focal point of a dispute between north Phoenix residents and two individuals who appear to be teenagers, after security footage showed the vehicle pulling up to at least two homes last Sunday at 1 a.m. The incident, which occurred near the intersection of 40th Street and Thunderbird, involved the smashing of holiday decorations and the physical striking of exterior doors, prompting neighbors to question the frequency of such nighttime disturbances in their community.
Suzie, a resident whose cameras captured the arrival of the SUV, described the sequence of events as two figures jumping from the back seat. They ran up her driveway, tackled her Halloween displays, and kicked them across the yard. "I want it to stop in our neighborhood; it’s happening too often in our neighborhood," Suzie said. Her concern over physical safety led her to post the video on Nextdoor, where neighbors quickly confirmed similar experiences during the same window of time.
Keri, who lives five minutes north of Suzie’s home, reported that a similar group targeted her property approximately 30 minutes after Suzie’s incident. While the teens at her home also damaged decorations, they concluded the visit by kicking her front door. "To be honest, I felt a little bit better that I wasn’t alone," Keri said. She expressed frustration over the timing of the destruction, noting, "I just don’t know what kids are doing out at 1 o’clock in the morning destroying property."
The incident follows a previous event in the same area last month involving a 14-year-old accused of causing $10,000 in damage. That earlier case was linked to a TikTok trend known as the "door kick challenge," a connection that has influenced how current residents view the latest occurrences. "It doesn’t make you feel safe," Keri said, linking the recent break-ins to the broader pattern of property damage in the neighborhood.
Both Suzie and Keri filed reports with the Phoenix police, who stated they are actively investigating the incidents. Authorities have asked anyone with information to come forward. The police investigation aims to determine if the two incidents last Sunday were part of a single coordinated effort by the same group of individuals.
