Tyler Allgeier rushed for 147 yards on Sunday, a career-best output that proved decisive in a chaotic overtime victory. The Arizona Cardinals defeated the Dallas Cowboys 33-30 at AT&T Stadium. The result capped a dramatic fourth quarter that featured four touchdowns in the final four minutes of regulation.
Allgeier, in his first season with Arizona after four years with the Atlanta Falcons, had to step up when the Cardinals lost two key players. Jeremiyah Love exited with an ankle injury, and Bam Knight entered concussion protocol. By the third quarter, Allgeier was the only healthy running back on the roster.
The Cardinals trailed 17-3 midway through the third quarter. With 90 seconds remaining in that period, Allgeier broke a 63-yard run for a touchdown. That score, his career-longest, cut the deficit to 17-10. Dallas quickly responded with a drive that ended in a 5-yard run by Dak Prescott, extending their lead to 24-10.
Gardner Minshew, who replaced starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett in the second half, orchestrated the next offensive sequence. The Cardinals advanced 80 yards in seven plays. Allgeier finished the drive with a 5-yard catch and run to reduce the gap to 24-17 with 10 minutes and 47 seconds left.
Allgeier also contributed in the passing game, recording five receptions for 44 yards and a receiving touchdown. His dual-threat performance gave the Cardinals a versatile weapon against the Dallas defense. He carried the ball 11 times for his rushing total.
The game remained tight through the final minutes. After the teams tied the score at 30-30, they moved to overtime. Chad Ryland kicked a 42-yard field goal to secure the win for Arizona.
Allgeier told reporters that he focused on playing for his teammates who had left the game. "Being able to really just play for them, I think that was my biggest thing," he said. "Just having them go down, being able to play for them, that was awesome for me just to be able to do that."
