José Eduardo Derbez told reporters on Saturday that no infidelity played a role in his split with Paola Dalay. He made the comment upon arriving at a theater in Mexico City for a show, hours after the pair officially announced their separation.

When asked directly about the specific reason for the breakup, Derbez replied, "Nada, no hubo infidelidad." He characterized the end of the relationship as a natural phase, telling the media, "Pues hay momentos de subir y bajar en una relación y aquí pues tocó bajar."

Derbez addressed questions about why the couple waited several weeks to go public. Rumors of the split had circulated online before their official statement. He explained that they used the interim period to create distance and assess if the issues could be resolved.

"Lo que pasa es que en ese tiempo estábamos obviamente tomando distancia y viendo qué se podía solucionar, pero pues no se solucionó claramente," Derbez said. He added that they are "muy bien" and "muy amigos," noting that they get along very well despite the change in status.

The couple began their relationship in October 2019. They welcomed their daughter, Tessa, on June 30, 2024. Tessa turned two years old in June of this year, four months before the couple’s confirmed split.
