One pregnant woman died and six others were wounded after gunfire erupted inside a Spirit Halloween store in Fairfield, California, at approximately 8:30 p.m. Friday.
The shooting occurred within the Solano Town Center, a complex housing 130 retail and dining locations. Police described the event as a targeted incident involving a single suspect. The victim was identified as Constance Hages, 31. Family members informed authorities she was carrying a child. Three male victims, aged 16, 19, and 32, were listed in critical condition. A 23-year-old man was hospitalized in critical but stable condition. Two additional men, ages 19 and 43, received treatment for gunshot wounds and were subsequently released.
Fairfield police released details on Saturday via a Facebook post. Investigators are currently reviewing video footage and other evidence to identify the person responsible for the violence. No arrests had been made as of the announcement. The FBI’s Sacramento field office is assisting the local department with the inquiry. The department stated that no further information would be released immediately.
The Solano Town Center remained open on Saturday but canceled its scheduled trick-or-treat event. The mall cited the previous night’s incident as the reason for the change. Police acknowledged the community’s uncertainty, especially given the number of Halloween celebrations planned for the day. They urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Fairfield, a city with a population of roughly 120,000, sits about 37 miles southwest of Sacramento and midway to San Francisco.
