President Donald Trump devoted the majority of his final campaign speech to detailing ongoing construction projects in Washington, D.C., rather than addressing the economic issues that currently dominate voter concerns. The address, delivered on Monday, served as the closing argument for the Republican party ahead of the midterm elections.

Standing before the Reflecting Pool at the Lincoln Memorial, Trump spoke for nearly an hour. He displayed photographs of the fountain's renovation, pointing out specific technical fixes such as rusted pipes, deteriorated joints, and reconditioned rebar. The project initially carried a budget of $1.5 million but has cost several times that amount due to delays and technical issues.

Trump described the completed work as a work of art. He joked about naming the pool after himself, which was reopened after months of closure. The renovation faced controversy when the blue coating he ordered began to peel and algae proliferations extended the timeline. While Trump blamed vandals, the contractor and federal prosecutors attributed the failures to poor construction quality.

This focus on infrastructure marked a departure from standard campaign rhetoric. In the opening minutes, the president largely ignored the upcoming vote. He later called Tuesday's election one of the most important in U.S. history and accused Democrats of fielding radical and dangerous candidates. He specifically targeted Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic Senate candidate for Michigan, linking him to supposed extremists without providing evidence.

Voters, however, remain focused on the cost of living, gasoline prices, and the economic impact of the war with Iran. These factors have contributed to a decline in the president's approval ratings. Polls predicted Democratic gains in several competitive states and a potential retaking of the House of Representatives. The Senate majority remains a point of contention.

Trump transformed the campaign into a personal endorsement of his administration. He participated in more than 20 rallies and urged supporters to vote as if his name were on the ballot. His emphasis on renovations has drawn criticism, including a comparison by former President Barack Obama who likened the White House decor to a Cheesecake Factory designed by Saddam Hussein. Trump also cited plans for a ballroom, a triumphal arch, and other modifications.

The president acknowledged he did not have enough time to discuss problems across the rest of the country. He concluded his speech by stating that they have many fantastic plans for Washington.
