Israeli news coverage faced a disruption on Tuesday morning when a Channel 14 anchor was forced to pause her live report following a physical and verbal altercation at a Haifa voting site.
Gal Tobi, the network's northern correspondent, arrived at a polling station in the Denya neighborhood without a cameraman. She stated that a man approached her, standing unusually close and touching her recording equipment while she was on air. Tobi told the news site Walla that the man accused her of filming people in the background, despite her being in a public area. She adjusted her camera angle to exclude bystanders, but said the interference persisted.
Tobi noted that the man had arrived with two companions. She reported hearing him tell them, "We don't want Channel 14." She also noted remarks against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during the exchange. Other voters at the station intervened to support her, but Tobi described the group's behavior as bullying that disrupted her broadcast.
"They started acting like bullies, disrupted my broadcast and touched my equipment," Tobi recounted. "I was verbally attacked and harassed," she added. The incident left the reporter visibly distressed, and she broke down in tears on camera. She indicated that she and her colleagues at Channel 14 have encountered similar situations during routine field reporting.
Despite the emotional toll, Tobi affirmed her intention to continue her duties. "We'll get through this and continue bringing you the voices from the field. We won't pay attention to people like that. Not everyone here is like that," she said during a subsequent Channel 14 segment.
Ofer Winter, the chairman of the People of Israel party, responded to the reports by condemning the harassment. "We are all brothers here! We must put an end to attacks by one brother against another," he said. Winter called on law enforcement to intervene, characterizing the event as part of a recurring pattern of incidents involving media crews. He stated, "There is no place for this violence in Israeli society, and any attack on media outlets doing their jobs must be condemned clearly and unequivocally."
