Steve Hilton addressed a crowd in Oceanside on Monday, marking his final public appearance before the November 3 election.

The Republican candidate for governor spent approximately one hour on stage, where he outlined a platform focused on lowering taxes, reducing gas prices, and increasing law enforcement. He stated that his administration will end mass homelessness in California by the end of 2027. Hilton characterized his opponent, Xavier Becerra, as a continuation of the current political status quo, telling the audience that they have likely grown tired of bureaucratic governance.

A central theme of the speech was the Tijuana River sewage issue. Hilton committed to stopping the flow of wastewater from Mexico, a promise that drew a strong response from the audience. He also reiterated his goal of bringing the price of gasoline down to three dollars per gallon through renewed oil drilling.

Supporters in the crowd cited specific policy preferences for their support. Jerry and Terrie St. John, a married couple from Oceanside, said they voted early for Hilton because they support his plan to clean up streets and assist the homeless. Diana Parkman, a resident of Vista, mentioned that she has followed Hilton for years and agreed with his stance on energy and housing.

The rally also attracted some crossover voters. Kari Barrera, a Democrat in the audience, said she was considering Hilton because she felt the Democratic Party had lost its focus on helping the underdog.

Other Republican candidates, including Jim Desmond and nominees for state controller and lieutenant governor, spoke to the group before Hilton took the stage. Becerra's campaign responded to the rally with a statement criticizing the influence of President Donald Trump. The spokesperson said Trump drives up costs while Hilton applauds. The statement noted that Becerra has worked to make health care and prescription drugs more affordable over the last decade.

Hilton plans to continue his campaign with private meetings in the final days before voters head to the polls on Tuesday.
